There are some surprises here. Just know that most people don’t think to clean these items so you need not be embarrassed. In addition to the items listed below, clean the cleaning materials – sponges, cloths and drying cloths all require frequent cleaning or replacing to allow you to keep a sparkling clean kitchen.
The can opener
This one is easy to clean. Just pack it into the dishwasher and you’re done. If you don’t have a dishwasher, soak it in hot dishwater and scrub the area between the blade and the can to remove residual bits of food.
Turn them upside down and shake out crumbs.
Soak it in warm soapy water and add bleach for good measure.
Use a small bristle brush (like the ones for baby bottles) to clean in the slots.
Rinse and leave upside down to dry thoroughly.
Check manufacturer’s instructions before attempting to clean these.
At the very least, thoroughly clean removable parts and clean around edges where gunk collects. Failing that you’re mixing old dirt into every blend.
Bin liners won’t keep your bin clean. Make sure you wash it out regularly with bleach to eradicate germs.
Leave it out in the sun to dry properly before you insert another bin liner.
Plastic container lids, especially sippy bottles
The grooves in the lid often trap food between the container and the lid so make a habit of running a bread knife in the grooves to remove any lodged pieces of food.
The lids of sippy bottles need special care so use very hot water and soak overnight.
They’re all relatively easy to clean but are often overlooked. Simply start making them part of your routine cleaning and rest assured that your loved ones are enjoying meals from a clean kitchen.
