An East London woman is in shock after a bullet narrowly missed her head during what may have been an attempted hijacking on McJannet Drive in Baysville, East London on Saturday.
The 51-year-old, whose name is known to the Dispatch, is receiving trauma counselling. Police said she was shot at from a vehicle driving behind her. The distraught woman declined to speak to the Dispatch and nominated a relative to speak on her behalf.
In an interview, the relative said the bullet entered the rear windscreen, penetrated the driver’s headrest and then the roof of the car. “Once it hit the inside of the roof, the bullet projectiles separated and smashed the front windscreen.”
The woman was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz C Class. “She heard a loud bang as she was driving and initially thought a rock had hit her car but didn’t stop because it was at night.“She only realised at home what had happened.”
Mdantsane police spokesman Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said that Cambridge police officers were investigating a case of attempted murder.
Mzuku said the incident took place on Saturday at 7.30pm and no arrests have been made.
