One hundred of shark carcasses were left to rot at the Western Cape beach the provincial police confirmed on Monday.

The shark bodies with the intestines cut out were discovered on Strandfontein beach by the beachgoers early on Sunday morning.

The ocean protection lobby group Ocean Impact said in their statement, “The shocking discovery… has left citizens extremely concerned. The photographs speak for themselves but the details behind the incident are still being investigated by authorities.”

A spokesperson for the environmental affairs department Zolile Nqayi said on Monday that the experts were investigating the case.
