Four cable thieves were arrested by a Red Alert Electronic Security and Armed Response unit commander in East London on Tuesday night.

The Red Alert officers were assisting Red Alert Emergency Medical Services medics at an accident scene on the Buffalo Pass Road when they noticed a vehicle passing the scene full of municipal cable.

The officer approached the vehicle to engage with the occupants who immediately fled the scene. The Red Alert team chased the vehicle and managed to stop it on Settlers way with the backup of other officers. Four suspects were apprehended on the scene, with stolen cable and the tools they used. The suspects were then arrested and handed over to the SAPS, where a case has been opened and vehicle impounded.
