EAST LONDON – Red Alert Electronic Security Manager, Brett Harvey, has reported multiple cases of infrastructure theft in and around Buffalo City. According to Mr. Harvey, thieves are after copper and have taken to stealing from residential properties.
Theft of copper cables is nothing new but since the steep increases in the price of copper, thieves have become a lot more brazen in their attempts to steal this valuable commodity. Many East London residents have become victims of infrastructure theft.
According to Red Alert Electronic Security, many of the cases they see include cable theft. The reality is criminal syndicates are looking for ways around the security measures and this has again raised the bar for the industry and the public, working hand in hand with law enforcement and security companies.
New rounds of load-shedding are increasing the risks and Harvey urges consumers to check their security system batteries so that transmission of their systems is uninterrupted and they still enjoy a connection to the control rooms during load-shedding.
Residents are advised to install CCTV cameras at the entrance to their properties and to employ the use of electronic motion sensors that serve to alert them to any activity on their property. These preventative measures make their properties less desirable to would-be criminals and add an extra level of security.
If you have any information that will lead to the conviction of infrastructure thieves, please report it to Red Alert on 043 703 4700.
