A 63-year-old man from Mozambique was arrested at the Lebombo border post when he wanted to enter the South African border with drugs worth R 30 million in his possession.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says the man was driving a white bakkie when he was stopped at the border post. According to Hlathi, the vehicle was stopped as part of a routine examination. It was fully loaded with coal.
The officers searched the bakkie and found 136kgs of heroin valued at R 27 million and 19kgs of crystal methamphetamine worth R 4 million.
The man is expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court today.
