Clean Hands, Clean Spaces – Why Hygiene Still Matters

Hand hygiene has never enjoyed as much attention as it did during COVID-19. Every post we saw told us how to wash our hands, how long to wash for, and which soaps and sanitisers were best.

That was soon followed by debate around the pros and cons of hand sanitiser. Some argued it killed all bacteria — even the beneficial ones — leaving people uncertain about the best approach. Questions lingered, but one thing remained clear: hand hygiene continues to be under the spotlight.

And the statistics are striking. In a single day, the average adult touches 7,200 surfaces and their face 552 times. When you consider that cleaning and disinfecting surfaces – combined with regular hand hygiene – can reduce virus concentrations by as much as 85.4%, the case for cleanliness becomes impossible to ignore.

That’s why Red Alert Service Solutions is proud to support International Cleaning Week, 22–28 March 2026. This annual campaign, led by ISSA, shines a spotlight on the vital role the cleaning industry plays in protecting public health – not just in workplaces and schools, but in every space we share.

Cleanliness isn’t a luxury. It’s an everyday essential.
